Bonds are essentially loans to governments or companies which are returned with a pre-determined rate of interest to the investor. Details of the different Bond funds you can choose from are listed below.

The Global Corporate Bond Fund (JP Morgan) is a unit-linked fund that gives you the opportunity to gain exposure to corporate bonds.

The Global Government Bond Fund (JP Morgan) is a unit-linked fund that gives you the opportunity to gain exposure to government bonds. It does this by investing in the JP Morgan Global Government Bond Fund.

The Indexed Eurozone Government Bond Fund (BlackRock) is a unit-linked fund that gives you the opportunity to participate in the performance of the Citigroup Euro Government Bond Index. The fund aims to track the performance of this index by investing in the BlackRock Euro Government Bond Index Fund which is managed by BlackRock Investment Management (UK) Limited.

  • Opportunity to invest in the euro-dominated EMU government bond market.
  • The fund will not take any non-euro currency exposure.
  • Risk rating: 3

The Active Fixed Income Fund is an actively managed bond fund. It primarily invests in bonds issued by eurozone governments and bond-based financial instruments.

  • Actively managed by Zurich Life
  • Managed against a benchmark of the Merrill Lynch Eurozone Government Over 5 Year Bond Index.
  • A maximum 30% in non-eurozone bonds.
  • Risk rating: 4

The Indexed Inflation-linked Bond Fund is a unit-linked fund that gives you the opportunity to participate in the performance of Eurozone government inflation-linked bonds.

  • Opportunity to invest in eurozone government inflation-linked bonds.
  • Potential to make higher returns, in the event of higher than expected future eurozone inflation.
  • This fund will not take any non-euro currency exposure.
  • Aims to track performance of the Barclays Euro Government Inflation-Linked Bond Index.
  • Invests in an ETF managed by BlackRock Asset Management Ireland Limited.
  • Risk rating: 4

The Long Bond Fund mainly invests in longer-dated bonds with over ten years to maturity primarily issued by eurozone governments.

It is managed against a benchmark of the Merrill Lynch Eurozone Government Over 10 Years Bond Index.

  • Actively managed by Zurich Life.
  • Maximum 10% in corporate bond exposure.
  • Maximum 10% in non-eurozone bonds.
  • The fund will not take any non-euro currency exposure.
  • Risk rating: 4

The Global Real Return Fund (PIMCO) is a unit-linked fund that gives you the opportunity to participate in the performance of government inflation-linked bonds. It does this by investing in the PIMCO Global Real Return Fund.

  • Actively managed global bond portfolio.
  • Managed by PIMCO Global Advisors (Ireland) Limited.
  • Risk rating: 4

The Emerging Local Currency Debt Fund (Pictet) is a unit linked fund that gives you the opportunity to participate in the performance of a portfolio of local-currency bonds issued in emerging markets.

  • Invests in a fund which invests in local currency bonds.
  • Some assets are outside the eurozone.
  • A minimum of two thirds of the funds bonds are linked to emerging country debt.
  • This fund is managed by Pictet.
  • Risk rating: 5
